GVP Series II SCSI controller
« on: October 09, 2003, 10:58:39 PM »
Is there any way to format dirves on these controllers other than the GVP software? I have tons of bad blocks that aren't fixed and don't get fixed (by the OS) on my harddrive, and it's driving me freaking mad.

Try HD-Toolbox with the name of the scs.device from the GVPII (I think GVPscsi.device)

BUT if you have lots of bad blokcs which the HD didn't mapped out itself, then is time for a new one.

A rule of thumb concerning bad blocks on SCSI drives is:
Since SCSI usually allocates about 2% of  the area for mapping bad block automatically, if you get more that 5% more allocated bad blocks it's time for a new drive.

The Device name may also be omniscsi.gevice if you havre the GURU Rom for GVP controllers.

I highly recommend buying this ROM upgrade wile you still can. Schatztruhe doesn't distribute or support it any longer but places such as Sortware Hut probably still have it.

shaf's right: the Schatztruhe GuruROM and omniscsi.device are better by far.

The GURU-Rom is indeed to be recommended: I have one on my A2091 (yes, they were made for this board), which greatly enhances the A2091's capabilities.
Life sucks. Then you die. Then they throw mud in your face. Then you get eaten by worms. Be happy it happens in that order... My Amiga 1200
