New Unofficial Amithlon Drivers Released

Just when you thought he'd gone away, Bernie Meyer has now made available some new drivers for Amithlon. These include new sound and network drivers that make use of Linux kernel drivers and therefore give full access to a large number of cards and chipsets.

These were features that would have been released a year ago had politics not intervened, and they have now been made available as a "thank you" to the long-suffering folk who bought Amithlon in good faith.

It's alive... Never used it myself, however I have personally witnessed the deep, deep penetration that Amithlon made into the Amiga community. I hope that there is some agreement among all parties involved and that it comes back!

Yeps.. The Peg version will not evolve as fast, however, as Bernie has a real job now.. It's just a hobby project. :-)

The major impact these drivers will have is in making Amithlon usage on laptops a much more attractive proposition by enabling network and sound support for them. Up to now, this would have been a major drawback.

These drivers also seem to work better than the officially supported ones, so they may well add reliability to users who already had network and sound support on their desktop systems.

With regard to a Pegasos equivalent, I believe Bernie will release this under the GPL when he is ready to do so. However, it's just a hobby project and unlikely to have the same impact that the x86 version did, for obvious reasons.
