Hi TallAmigan,

One must purchase a system? to get the $100 off?

You get 100$ discount on the AmigaOne board or can have OS4 for free for the party pack coupon. Correct me if I am wrong but I am sure about this.

Hi
Official statement from Mr Alan Redhouse (Eyetech):

"No this is not our promotion - and Bill will post the clarification details later. But we are shipping A1 boards + OS4-OEM to dealers (inc Amiga Inc)
and that plus complete systems ourselves.
It is likely that you will probably be able to cash your voucher direct with dealers - but it is down to Amiga Inc to give out the details of how this will work. The main issue - as so many people have pointed out - is how to avoid the banks becoming the main beneficiaries of what was a well intentioned user support program (we pay euros15 ~USD15 on every receipt transaction for example).
Also the law is somewhat different in te US. In Europe you cannot (past Amiga-related companies excepted!) legally take money off consumers for a product that isn't yet on general availability. And, to me, $50 seeems an awful lot to charge for a T-shirt, with an non-legally enforcable right to an equivalent reduction on an AmigaOne. You will of course (somehow) get the
$50 off - this is just really a problem of how consumer legislation is inconsistent -  and bank charges are inevitable - across the Global Economy.
That may also go some way to explain why it is Amiga Inc who receieve the money and not us or Hyperion"

/Warning started of as a small post and turned into a rant/

Excuse me but...

I have never owned or used an Amiga but I am still willing to take the RISK of purchasing one based on the positive feedback i have recieved from other Amiga Users.

In my case I am ONLY interested in purchasing a complete and working system.

The reasons for this are:
1. I am probably goint to have a steep enough learning curve without throwing hardware curve balls into the equation.
2. I want an un-ambigouose WARRENTY which I can only get with a complete system.  I am not willing to risk purchasing parts which may not work and be cought arguing with the original vendors that I did not install them properly.
3. I have better things to do with my time than fiddle with hardware (been there done that).

I agree that having the choice one way of the other is great. However Amiga.INC are trying to bring this system back from the dead and having a "certified" hardware combo to give new users a problem free expirenece is probably a better option at this time than allowing "mix and match" which will be harder FOR THEM to support.

As for the voucher, I don't care what it is for. If the number purchased stays as low as it currently is (less than 300 when i last looked) it will convince more developers that they are wasting there time than any other act.

My belief is that if you wish to prove to the world that Amiga is not dead, purchase the fXXking coupon and get the "number" up.  In truth if you guy's balk at a $50US commitment it will be hard to convince anyone that you will spend money on anything else for the Amiga either. The developers will go where the money is and at the moment the numbers are suggesting "somewhere else".

Thats my 2 cent worth

Regards
Darren
I\\\'ve never used an Amiga

Convince me....

I am your future :-)

Nothing wrong with that, bu you should know that most of the current users
know how to built a system themselfes and solve any troubles and that alot
allready have the one or other item they want to put in their new system, or
have a source where they can get better parts at lower prices.

No even if the number would be well in the 4 digit region you would still
not be able to convince one single developer as the HW isn't available yet.

If you want to show your support for the systems, you should buy
Amithlon now (better wait till next week), Amiga-SW to run on it now,
and the PPC-system of your choice if an d when they are available.

SW-developers need sales NOW and that goal can't be reached with
the coupon.
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

Pity about the delay, I also had decided to purchase Amithlon 2 so that I could have a decent system while i was waiting for 'other' things to progress.

@Gadget

This is the Amiga !!
Did you really expect that something like that could go without useless fights ?

It's a far to good product to be allowed to the market it seems.

(no offense meant, just an observation of the last 8 years)

Actually , I was a bit surprised when I heard about the licensing issue being sorted out.

My first thoughts were "this is too good to be true"

I was right.

Lets just hope it doesn't drag on and on.

We really should be used to seeing things 'not going so smoothly' in the Amiga market by now.

Poor Bernie, he does something good for the community and look how he gets treated. :-?
