Here is some news about the updates at the Amiga Demoscene Archive.

Update with 6 new productions, including 5 party winners: Repugnance/Powerline (1st at Icing 97), Jesus was a demomaker/Ramses (1st at Euskal 6), Grid/Nature (1st at Mekka Symposium 1999), Real/Complex (1st at Saturne 2). Then we go way back in time with the first 1988 release on A.D.A.: Wild Copper demo/Wild Copper (aaahhh, the scroller on the workbench brings back some nice memories!). And then another party winner and a real classic in amiga demo history, Enigma/Phenomena (1st at Anarchy Eastern party 91)!!

Other news: it's now possible to sort the complete demo list by year (just select "view by releasedate" and press "refresh view"). Thanks to pVC on ANN for this idea. And we are working on a comment/vote system. It's not finished yet but it is already possible to register, vote and comment. So now it's in your hands to make this site much more interesting!!! More additions to the voting/comment will be added (like top demo charts,...).

What the future brings? More demos, demos and demos! Please think about voting/comments as it would really add something wonderful to this site! Enjoy!

And what a classic it is, first demo i had ever seen on the Amiga and still one of my favs, Fantastic.
Think its time to download some classics, been to long  8-)

And yes, it's time to download some classics again and  :-o  at those amazing demos.

I hope that with the site we're building, the amiga demoscene will never be forgotten. And i hope that people will remember those great times.

Umm yeah, i know the name but just cant remember what is was about.

There was so many demos dished out in its golden days it could have been hard to keep up, only the classics really stand out for me which is quite a few.

On a slightly different note:
For you guys with PPC cards and wanna see a Great little demo to take advantage of that CPU, check out DeathTrial by Mankind, One of the better demos of the past 2 years for your powered Amigas, nice!

Amiga demo fans are in for a rude awakening.  Future demos will be much fatter and require more resources.  Forget about amazing mega demos that fit on a disk or two.
 
 Amiga Inc. is hellbent on removing Amiga hardware features like Sprites, Playfields, color-compressed video modes, Copperlists and raster-synced events.
The AI solution?  Mate your old true Amiga mobo to the new boards.

  But even then it may end up a hack instead of a real unification (they've been strangely silent on how it will work), and you can expect them to de-emphasize said features, instead encouraging programmers to write programs to extoll the virtues of the (gag me!) Shape Tables and brute-force methodd of moving grpahics around.   Sigh.

The Mac and Windows world *talk* about Sprites, but only because they don't actually KNOW what a real sprite is (nimrods).  All these AGP cards we're going to be stuck with, don't ACTUALLY have any real Sprites.  We're going to have #&% BOB-like objects and we're supposed to act like that's good enough.  Cripes, it's like having an Atari ST with a PPC chip.  Yippee.

Optimization is very concret concept in demomaking. Some developpers on Wintel should download demos.  :-)

Sprites? Sprites? Sprites? Well, if you really think it is faster nowadays to have a copper-like processing unit right next to the RAMDAC that can decode instructions and change the place from which data is feched in real-time, then be my guest.
Personally, i don't think real sprites are the solution.

However, a 2d processor that can work with bitmaps stored within the GFX-card's own memory (i.e. blitter) would be cool.

As for incorporating something linked to the video beam, such as the copper, well, interesting, but people would need a nice API to be able to utilize that across a wide range of GFX-cards. It is hard to see that hapenning, but it would be very interesting, especially for one reason:

A copper, as in the amiga, does not have to be limited to sprites. It can also be used for alpha-blending multiple streams of images, overlaying graphics.. etc..

Now an API for that shouldnt be too hard, I guess.
And the hardware design should be easy enough too. The copper could have an exclusive mem for storing its copperlists (no reason hogging the RAMDAC bus) - perhaps it would work...

but having a copper subsystem just to support multiple sprites is over the top?
