Deneb USB Linksys 100tx with Genesis
« on: May 14, 2009, 02:16:11 AM »
I have seen others on here get their Deneb and linksys100tx working with Genesis.  I can see the linksys in Trident bound to pegasus class.  The driver says "usbpegasus.device".  When I use Genesis wizard, it fails on bootp and I get no lights on the liksys.  I know it is a good connection because I took it from my PC and it is a straight thru to my switch.   If I try any other driver I get a can't find devs error.  My Deneb works with everything else I've tried.  Any ideas?

I'm successfully using that exact adapter with MiamiDX and Envoy - although I don't get any LED activity either. Sometimes it just stops working for no reason, but restarting Poseidon sorts that out.

I don't know the inner workings of Genesis, but back with AmiTCP, hardware information had to be manually added to the db/interfaces file. Does Genesis have a hardware definition page?

Yes,  it says:
"Chose a name for the sana-II config file and enter its contents below.  Please refer to the documentation of yoru device driver"

I pointed it to ENV.netconfig/autointerfaces and it contains:

usbpegasus0 DEV=usbpegasus.device UNIT=0.

I put that in the parameters box and I get the same thing.

As I said, I'm not familiar with Genesis, so hopefully someone else can chime in with better help...

Does Genesis ever let you enter a SANA-II device name directly? Maybe manual edits to the config file aren't being parsed correctly?

it fails on bootp

Why do you think this is a problem ? BOOTP is not used in home networks. Just ignore it.

You will then be asked whether you know your IP address. Answer "Yes" and enter a new IP address in the range of your local network.

DHCP is not supported by Genesis.

Thomas

I have done that as well.  I put in its IP, router, dns and I still get no lights and I cannot access the internet.  One thing I notice is that when I open Trident, I don't have a class for the Linksys adapter it show ? but I have the Pegasus.class bound in the last column.  Do I need an upgrade?  I just purchased the Deneb and I'm using its version of software.  How can I tell what version of Poseidon I am using?  It seems to be a phantom software as the only interface I see to it is Trident.

When I select the connection in Genesis and click online, it says "Inappropriate state".  Then on the next line it says online.  I am using the Genesis version that was installed from the 3.9 disk plus the two Boing bag updates.

The linksys works because I installed it on my laptop and it works fine and I get lights.

Bootp and DHCP are pretty much the same thing.  DHCP is an extension of bootp.  They both allocate IP addresses and use the same udp ports.

Does anybody know what parameters should be put in Genesis to get the linksys working?

Matt,

You can edit any of the parameters in the config file.  I just don't know what they should be.

Do you think it Power consumption?  I am wondering if I install a powered USB Hub would solve my problem.  I have ran into problems before with POE wireless access points where it will power it up but not allow the radio to turn on.

Nobody out there can help?  I purchased a powered USB hub and a new Linksys USB300M.  I'll try that tonight.

Update.  I got it working.  There were two issues.  The first was I had to upgrade Poseidon from 4.0 to 4.2.  After I did that I still couldn't get the Linksys100tx working.  I even added a powered usb hub.  I plugged in the Linksys300M and configured Genesis and I am on line now.  I also installed Miami32 and that worked as well.

There is a hitch in the 4.2 upgrade.  I did the software upgrade but I am unable to open Trident because it says it requires the 4.2 Poseidon library.  The upgrade only has the 4.0 upgrade.  I contacted Chris Hodges and he said that I have to upgrade the flash on the deneb in order to get the 4.2 library.  That does not make any sense to me since I pulled the 4.0 originally from flash but we will see.

You need Luciferin. Select Quick Setup -> Poseidon USB from its menu and update the Flash. Then do a cold reboot.

Be sure to back up the existing contents of the Flash if there's anything in there you want to keep (the Eric Schwartz anim, for example).

You know that alert comes up saying do you want to see that animation.  I have over 5 meg RAM and AHI.  I click yes but it does nothing.

Ok where is luciferin?  Is that in the Deneb utilities?

OK.  Deneb is upgraded to V9 and Poseidon is upgraded to 4.2.  The linksys300M is working perfectly.  I advise anybody that wants to have a USB to Ethernet connection to purchase this device.  It is so easy to use and works well with both Genesis and Miami32.

I am still trying to get the Linksys100TX working though.  Now after all the upgrading, I get lights, Genesis sees it on line but I cannot surf the web or ping it from another computer.   I'm going to contact Poseidon to see why the class has a "?" on the Linksys100TX and it says "Vendor" on the Linksys300M.  I think that is my problem.

That happens with mine as well, but it does work. Chris Hodges told me there are bugs in the ethernet drivers with TCP/IP stacks other than Miami (already fixed in beta / next release), so maybe that's what's sinking your device with Genesis.

Looks like you're online, though, so congrats.
