Slingshot Pro Help Needed...
« on: March 17, 2009, 03:10:34 AM »
I just picked up an A500 and it had a slingshot pro with it.

From what I understand, the slingshot allows me to use an A2000 Zorro II card with the unit.

Is there any drivers needed or any special configuration needed on my A500 to use it?

I'm just scared I'm going to brick my 500

Thanks for any help!

Nope, just attach a A2000 Zorro II card and look for smoke! ;)  Just kidding, you will definaltely need a beefier PS to use it, especially if it has a HD on it.  I had a R&D 200 watt PS with my SLP years ago.  I have a GVP Series II HC with a 52MB HD and 2MB RAM on it!  Was my first HD.

Wow thanks TjLaZer!  That was a quick response.  I'm going to attempt to add a Zorro II network adapter this weekend... wish me luck.

Hey!  A fellow Washingtonian!

Have a great day!

Hi Topdog -

In the RH picture (the top view) is that an empty socket at the top?

Somewhere buried in my basement I have one of these and have never tried it out because I thought I was missing a chip!

Amigoat,  yes it is an empty socket.  But I did receive a chip to put into the socket as well... not sure what the chip does or if it is even needed.

If I remember correctly, the Zorro-II bus has a clock signal that isn't present on the A1000/A500 expansion connector. The chip is used to generate that clock but it isn't used by many boards, so you usually don't need it.
