Help with a Bvision problem
« on: March 12, 2009, 01:02:01 PM »
Hi,

I've managed to get my A1200 tower working again, and restored my backup of OS3.9 etc. It's working fine on a TV, but I can't seem to get my Bvision configured. When WB loads, I get my old OS3.9 picture appear on my Samsung 2032BW TFT, but then WB just fires up on my TV, leaving my OS3.9 picture on my TFT. At first I could not see my Bvision card in ScreenMode but I've applied an update to CGX4 and I can now select the Bvision screen modes.

Now though when I boot up I get a blank WB screen on my TFT and the system hangs.

Any help is most appreciated.

Regards,

Mark

give the connector a push to make sure its making good hookup.
i have to give it a push everytime i fire up my PPC machine otherwise i get a nice hang or full on crash when it initializes the CGX drivers.
once its all warm, everything is fine and it can run for hours/days with no problems.
usual hint somethings amiss is the mouse pointer on the AGA screen piped through the bvision card before the CGX drivers are loaded, is corrupt.

(yes i do have the nuts and bolts that hold the bvision to the ppc card done up :-) )

i take it you've got your PPC card flashed to a reasonably "recent" revision?
have you set up the screen modes in cgxmode? you may want to re-jig them so they are at whatever by whatever at 60hz for your flat panel, instead of the generic modes it loads as standard.
you've got a good version of CGX loaded? i seemed to get problems with the latest latest version, and had to step back a couple till i found one that worked for me.

hope this helps, :-)

A500, A600, A1200x3, A2000, A3000, A4000 & a CD32.
and probably just like the rest of you, crates full of related "treasure" for the above XD

Hmm, I checked everything and it looks ok. I've made sure I'm running a 60hz signal too.

The version of CGX I patched to is 4.2 rc6. I found this in the manual here:

http://phase5.a1k.org/files/bvisionppc_english.pdf

This also mentions connecting a floppy power cable to give the Bvision more juice. I'm guessing this may be the issue. My system is in a Power Tower, and there's a small PCB that plugs into the motherbaord where the gap is in the Bvision board. Is this connecting to the floppy connector? Where is the floppy connector? This small PCB has wires trailing off to the front of the Power Tower, but has one red and black wired two pin connector hanging loose at the moment. Where does this go?

It's a shame, I used to know my beloved A1200 like the back on my hand and would regularly pull it apart and put it back togther again. But all my knowledge seems to have dribbled away.

The floppy connector is next to where the floppy cable goes (on your mobo)

If you are using a Power Tower, just use one of the floppy connectors that are in the PSU and connect it to your A1200 mobo, to where the floppy drive would be connected. I assume you have your floppy drive receiving power from other PSU cable...so that leaves the floppy connector in your mobo free... (hope you understand this since english inst my native languague...)

As for the red/black cables...i think they are for a speaker or something?

Cant remember for sure and im not at my house now, so i cant check on my Tower

I can post that info later for you, together with some pics

Regards and i hope my little advice helps you

Hurray! Not sure if my fiddling with that small PCB or CGXMODE made a difference, but it's working like a charm now. I've now got WB running on my TFT at 1280 x 1024. Shame it's doesn't support wide screen res's.

Hmm, now the difficult choice to either keep it, or sell it.
