4000D Replacement PSU
« on: February 23, 2009, 05:27:04 AM »
Hi,

I've read through all the old messages about replacing a dead 4000D PSU with an ATX PSU but I'm still a little confused...

If I buy an adapter ( eg from Amigakit)and a new ATX PSU should it just be a case of removing the old one and putting the new one in or is there something in particular I would need to look for when buying the ATX PSU?

Cheers,
Marc

I don't think a standard ATX PSU will fit well.  I purchased a MiniATX 145W unit and it fit quite well with some extra space.  I think there's a pic of it in my photo album.

Hi Marc, I'm Marc ...  :-D

I bought a 400W AT PSU from Newegg.com for my 4000T, doesn't the 4000D take a standard AT PSU as well? IF so, that would be pretty easy to do.

I assume you have to replace the power switch on the front as the old one is a push rod.

You can rig a micro atx ps and power adaptor to an at switch in such a way that you can turn on/off using the rod its fiddly but get it right and it works well.

Our A4000 to ATX adapter cable is supplied with a switch on the cable for the front of the A4000 Desktop:

You will need an ATX PSU suitable to fit the desktop case though.

 :-D

Thank you all for your replies, I'm not very good with cutting etc so I think I'll go for a mini atx psu + the kit from Amigakit.

The thing is I haven't even got the 4000 yet!!! Still bidding for it on ebay.... Sad, I know....
