8mb simm
« on: February 16, 2009, 02:40:59 PM »
hi guys,
just got a 1200 off ebay (rather mint if i do say so myself) with a supposed 8mb ram xpansion and 170mb hd.
However, the ram is only showing as 4mb. I assume this means the expansion board is capable of holding an 8mb simm but only has a 4mb installed?? if so, what kind of simm can i fit to boost it to 8mb and will that be sufficient to run whdload without an accelerator?

thanks again

Are there any jumpers on the board? Some RAM  boards have a jumper to clip the RAM to 4MB to keep it compatible with the PCMCIA slot. Also, some SIMMs only show up as half their size due to not being completely compatible with the Amiga. It's possible you have an 8MB SIMM but can only use 4MB of it :(
Engineers do it with precision

Have you popped the cover off to make sure it takes a simm.. some have memory soldered onto the board and cannot be upgraded.

You might struggle with some whdload's with 2mb chip and 4mb fast.. 8mb fast would be much better.
