Can I use a German A2000 keyboard?

I recently acquired an Amiga2000 keyboard for a future upgrade project. (A1200, PC-Key, tower)

My question is whether I can use it as the key layout is German. The system I'll be setting up will be US NTSC.

I take it the keyboard is German as there are umlauts over the O and A, and there is a double s.

Of course it'll work. The only thing to worry about when using Amigas from other countries is the power supply (and video standard, depending on how you're connecting your display device).

EDIT: Actually, the issue isn't the keymap, but whether Amiga keyboards can be used in the PC-Key. If they can, you're all set.

I thought that was the case, but I just wanted to be sure. Load US locale, and I'm set.  :-D

From what I read about the PC-Key, it uses the Amiga2000 keyboard or Amiga4000 w/ adapter.

BTW, if I were using the German locale, how do you activate the umlauts? Is it via a ctrl shift or something similar?

The Y key will register as Z and vice versa.  :-)

Locale (language) does not matter. You can use English language with German keyboard. The keyboard layout can be changed with Prefs/Input. Choose the "D" keymap to activate the German layout. If there is no D, copy it from Storage/Keymaps to Devs/Keymaps first.

No key combinations are needed to activate the umlauts.

Once the German keyboard layout is active, you can use the Alt key to return to the English layout. For example press Alt-Ä to get a ' sign.
