Old A2000 floppy drives die easily?

Do I simply have bad luck, or is it true that these old internal floppy drives die easily -- likely when put into storage in a not-dry place?  Perhaps the mechanical components get a bit rusty or something like that?  Anyway, are there any good/cheap sources for replacement drives?  Thanks.

I would check out ebay.  I have seen them sell for as cheap as $5.

Hi,
the most common problem with old drive is the old GREASE that became too strong and put the head out of the good track.

 I have had My A2000 for almost 16 years and the floppy still works fine. I would say they are very robust, however they will eventually need to be replaced. As said above good deals can be found on Ebay but also AmigaKit sells new drives that I think will work with older Amigas.  :-)

Yes, but they do not have the same height. There will be a little gap over the drive. But it works :-)

The biggest problem I've had with Amiga floppy drives is the switch that indicate disk change, R/W protection and HD go bad due oxidation. I've been able to fix this problem by spraying a little tuner cleaner into the switch and working it 50 or so times to remove the oxidation.

The drive acts wonkie when you have this problem, Usually it thinks the disk is not in the drive when it is.
