I'm in a bit of a Yam.
« on: January 27, 2009, 02:01:45 PM »
Installed the latest version of Yam from aminet but when I try to run it my A4k just freezes in the middle of loading.

I've run snoopdos to see if it hangs when loading a specific file but that didn't help since it seems to happen att different stages each time.

I'm stuck, don't know what to try and have no idea what might cause this.

Hithere,
I'm running YAM2.5 on a unexpanded 4000/04 with OS 3.5 and AmiTCP3 I seem to recall there are lots of misc files to also download from http://downloads.sourceforge.net, not sure if that is yr problem - good luck.

I doubt that. Something goes wrong when loading, not from the lack of some file(s). Maybe I have some old mui class file that Yam doesn't like, problem is that it freezes at different stages each time so there's no clue as to any particular file causing the freeze.

Gonna do a fresh wb3.1/3.9 install on another partition, install mui and everything and see what happens.

I have a feeling it's your datatypes crashing your system. I had the same problem with the recent version of YAM as well as some other programs using PNGs for their images.

Use a program like Image Studio to batch convert all the GUI images to IFF/ILBM files, preferably in the same palette or colour depth as your Workbench, saving over the original files without renaming them, then try loading YAM again.

I've also found that if you use the V42 replacement picture.datatype from Aminet, although better and faster than the Commodore one, it can corrupt the toolbar images in YAM. There's supposed to be a fix for it but I haven't looked into fixing it.

I'll give that a go and see if it helps.
