A570 Issue
« on: January 10, 2009, 11:00:29 PM »
I got an A570 a couple of months ago, and I just started to play around with it a bit. I bought it in "as-is" condition so im not sure if its actually working, seller told me it had been in storage for the last 10 years or so.

Anyway, when plugging it in to the A500+, no boot at all. Not even a little click from the floppy. The lights on the A570 looks a bit "dim", both of them light up though, but nothing happens.

The A500+ have KS 3.1, could this possibly be the issue, or is the most probable cause a dead A570?

As far as I know, the A570 should work with Ks3.1

Make sure the volume knob isn't all to the left (till you hear it click). If it is, the A570 is disabled.

Also when you power everything on, first power on the A570, and then the A500.

You will get really poor CDTV emulation out of the A570 with a 3.1 ROM. It actually works best with 1.3 ROM. 2.04 sort of works.Good luck with it. Hope you got several caddies with it....

I've had an A570 sinse they first came out, they are very cool.  They are one of the few Commodore devices that can BOOT from a CD.

A570s can be used with Supra's RX500 fast ram expansions, but, it will be damaged if left connected to an accelerated A500.

There are THREE things you MUST try to get for your A570.

The first and most important is a 2Mbyte FastRAM upgrade which you can buy (even now) from Nicolas Welte. With this RAM you'll be able to use WHDload CD's which autoboot and have enough RAM to play almost any ECS/OCS game.

The other is a HK-Computer - Vector Falcon 570 SCSI card. These are available from eBay now and again

The final thing is an external SCSI hard drive.

Did you get any CDs?  Aminet used to publish their collection on CD as did Fred Fish.  Some of the CD coverdisks should work as well, you may have to boot from floppy first.

If you have access to an Amiga with a CD burner, you could make a CD with OS3.1 and all your favorite apps, no HD required.
