A1200/040 (still in classic case) HSF issue

Recently I found that the HSF (well, it mostly is a stuck-on fan, I don't see much in the way of a heatsink) has come unstuck from the processor.  What can I use to safely re-stick it, or alternative solutions, which brings me to my second question...

The trap door that came with the card never has fitted correctly since the accelerator card was put in (it bulges where the HSF sticks out).  Also, the accelerator card hangs a little from the socket.  When I was using my A1200 (which hasn't been for some years) I would use a bit of rubber to wedge between the card and the case to hold it in place, and also have extra rubber feet under the A1200 to give it a bit more breathing room, without using the trap door.  Alternative solutions?

you could try plastic feet instead.

I'd just use a little bit of superglue to stick that heatsink back on.

Oh, God, don't use superglue!!!! When superglue cures it gives off fumes, it can cause damage to electro-mechanical devices... i.e. bye-bye floppy drive.. There are other issues too....

To re-attatch the heatsink best to use thermal paste and some  type of clip, etc. like it's meant to have....

you can search ebay for "adhesive thermal paste" , it is cheap and it is exactly what you need.

What a load of balls. Whilst I agree with the point you're trying to make it's totally over the top.

I would clean both surfaces with some Arctic Clean or ISO, apply some good thermal paste, and just a dab of thermal glue in two of the corners to hold it on (if there aren't any clips). Use something like a small book to keep some pressure on while it dries. This way you'll get the thermal transfer properties of the quality HSC, and the glue should be enough to hold the sink on, but weak enough to come off again in the future without much struggle.

lorddef: OK, fine. Sorry if my post was over the top. But, I was only trying to help someone to Not ruin an Amiga. Super Glue vapors will freeze motors, especially in an enclosed/semi-enclosed space. So there  :-P

thats exactly what i did to heatsink my CV64/3D (overclocking, not for 3D rendering, but for massive resolutions) blob of paste, smoothed out, and heatsink attached with two small blobs of glue on opposite corners

on my blizz1240, i have a couple of heatsinks that are big enough to rest on the shelf the host 1200 is sat on.
thing is, the shelf is metal, and perforated, so plenty of air movement, and heat conducting off to a massive surface area. so no fans... but if i loose that trolly, i'll have to rethink my solution. prolly gonna swap out to an o6o, so heat will become a non issue, and i'll be able to put the trapdoor back on :-)
