Siting here twiddling my thumbs as you do, I came across this thought..............

I am sure this may have been here in the past at osme point but in case it hasnt here goes.........

I have a spare 40gig HD IDE
I would like to put on XP and Amikit (ok I have already done this) but the point is this I want to try out this 40gig HD BUT with the least possible that is needed to run XP.
I suppose in other words what is the least you can have running in XP in order to be able to run Amikit to its fullest.
I want a system that I don't actually need XP as a user system but more Amikit instead.

Has any one done this?
I cant use Windows 2000 as I have an Athlon dual core 64bit system and Windows 2000 just throws woblies with that.

I also have Linux Ubuntu 8.04.01 but it seems to be a bit of a hassle getting Amikit on that.

Windows 2000 uses less memory, I would not say any faster no.

You can use nLite to trim WindowsXP down to a minimal install. Works pretty well. Did it for my eeePC and got XP down to ~700Megs and booting in less than 30sec.

Amikit on linux is pretty straight forward, you need a kick rom, the 3.5/9 cd, then just download the linux installer from the site

I have not tried the Linux version of AmiKit yet.  Does the installer you are referring to include a minimal Linux installation first and then install AmiKit on top of it, or do you need to install the Linux of your choice first, then run the AmiKit Linux installer?

Well, the new gui installer uses xdialog or something, apart from that its standard.

Uhm, i read that too quick, its a standalone installation, no amikit linux distro, yet anyway, i know the guy that wrote the installer was experimenting with zip-slack tho. A standard ubuntu install with proper gfx drivers installed should do the job, course you have to apt-get xdialog, i dont think ubuntu includes that either.
