Odd CF behaviour
« on: November 26, 2008, 10:50:47 AM »
I have an A1200 with a CF adapter + 4gb CF card it is a generic brand and works perfectly.. Prior to buying the generic brand I tried a Sandisk Extreme III  CF card with no luck so I put the Sandisk one aside thinking I may use it for something else one day..

I recently got an SX-1 for my CD32 so I went and bought myself another adapter and the same Generic CF card I use on the 1200 to put in it...

The damn thing refuses to work with the CD32 even though it works fine in the 1200 & A3000 + Buddha...
After many frustrating hours of trying everything under the sun, I decided to try the Sandisk card that refused to work in any other Amiga and lo & behold it works perfectly in the SX-1!!

The life of an Amigan is certainly a difficult one...

We know that A1200/A600 has an ATA-0 interface which supports only upto PIO-2 commands.

It is possible that the IDE controller in the SX-1 is slightly different? After all it is unique to the SX1 isn't it?

Perhaps the SX1 interface supports higher levels?

Now, why would you go and use logic on me?

I'm good at missing the obvious  :-D

I could be wrong. Looking at the photos there is no ROM on the SX1 board. Which hints towards it not being a custom IDE interface but a remake of the A600/A1200 Gayle registers.

Which in that case... it can only be signal strength and timing which are different.

I just tried another CF card of the same generic brand but 2g in size and of 266x speed... Also works just fine so I'd say you're right...

Still won't let me put two of them on the same channel though, much like the 1200...
