A1000 and my 1060

My first ever owned amiga, got it when it first came out, and only now it gives me a couple of slight issues.

Actually, not the A1000 itself, just the sidecar.

was wondering, if I can simply use like a small laptop psu or something to replace the current (no longer working ofcourse) one on my 1060 sidecar??

No one in aug is 100% cetain, and thought I could get a quick answer here, rather than buying a 20 dollar psu, only to chuck it, and waste my time.

the second issue is no point in mentioning yet, as tommorrow im off to our club meet, to hand to one of our guys to see if he can fix it for us.

any advice or links welcome.

The power supply in my A1060 failed also. I tried at length to repair it and in the end it was a bad transformer. I ended up using the board out of a newer AT power supply from a standard PC and mounted it on the metal shelf in place of the old one.

I desoldered the connectors from the old A1060 power supply and transfered them to the new one. It looks stock and works great!

Dude, that is awesome gear you got there versus my simple A1000. Im also currently using A1200 with 3.1roms, and noticed quite often, a lot of older games dont wish to play, even when loading workbench 2.0 or less from the kickscreen, or holding down the mouse buttons to select what mode to use.

Was wondering, now that your using 3.1 on your a1000, if you have noticed any problems with old game loading??

If I have problems with any older games I just grab another A1000 without 3.1. I have many Amigas to choose from:-D

You know, it took me a moment to realise why a fuse would blow out.

Luckily they came in six packs, gave me and sammy a chance to test out some things. We soldered off a resistor(blue), then tried it again, and the fuse didnt blow now, but it still doesnt work, so I am going to change the psu for sure now.

There are some really good reads on the net about repairing switching mode power supplies. You can fix your old one as long as the transformer is good. Start by testing the resistance on the outputs to see what happened. It could have bad capacitors, rectifier, switching transistors, or all of the above.

To be honest I wouldn't bother. Just grab a board out of a working AT power supply and swap it. Be careful of line voltages when you are working.

Just wondering how one for work out what voltages go where on the plug? Is the 1060 P/S compatible to an AT one? I've never compared the pinouts. And until this month never heard of an A1060.

If the original P/S is dead, then it would be a bit hard testing what voltages are on line. I'd be lost! :-)

It's pretty simple really. Two of the voltages can be worked out by the power plugs for the disk drives. Those pinouts are available and the voltages are +5 and +12, the grounds should be obvious and I believe there is one more negative voltage line. I can try and find the details if you get stuck. All of these are available on a standard AT power supply board and it can be easily adapted with a little detective work.

About that other problem I was having:
It seems the large 5 inch floppy drive is a simple problem case scenario of, the metal that holds the disk into place, has simply come out of position, and so, I think I may either glue it back on, or muck around with some tape, for a temporary fix.

Meanwhile Iv been way too busy doing floppies via xcopy, to try and get some 3 1/4" floppies into the scheme, just in case my 5" one really does fail me completely one day.

Man, got heaps to go, something like 2000 floppies.

Insanity.

As for the PSU, thanks for your tips, Ive asked a friend if he needs his old PSU from his x86 hardware, and so I have found a donor.
