WHDLoad plays games SLOW on accelerated amiga
« on: November 03, 2008, 10:02:31 AM »
Hi I'm just wondering wether it is problem of my configuration, some patches or just bugs in WHDLoad and it's installs.
Not all, but many WHDLoad games (examples: Lotus series, Mortal Kombat series, Chaos Engine and other 2D stuff) play very slow - to the point they're unplayable. The problem started after I've added GVP A530 to my setup. Before that I was using GVP Impact Series and all games were playing at normal speed. So I'm wondering - maybe WHDLoad is detecting 68030 CPU and slowing down games accordingly but due to A500 architecture games are playing much slower than A1200 with 030?
Any ideas?

I doubt WHDload cares about AGA or OCS/ECS in terms of speed. And for an OCS/ECS game I bet it doesnt do anything!

Perhaps you do not have enough RAM? How much Fast RAM do you have? The full 8Mbytes?

Perhaps you have "Preload" option deliberately turned off on your slaves?

http://www.whdload.de/docs/en/opt.html

Edit the tool type on one of the icons of the WHDload slaves you have.

First check what tooltypes you already have and if necessary add one or all of following: (on separate lines)

NoMMU
Cache
Preload

See if that helps

Interestingly enough, I've found out that in cases like yours, adding the nocache tooltype fixes the problem.

Neither of that options help. Mortal Kombat is still slow motion... And Lotus games are jittering at about 3-4 FPS... Hopeless :( Luckily I still have my Impact Series - if there is nothing I can do about that WHDLoad - I'll be swapping A530 with Impact Series whenever I'll want to play that games... Strange thing is that if I play those games from floppies - they play just fine.

Sorry - I've just updated Lotus2.slave file with new version and now the game runs very fast and smooth. Though Mortal Kombats and Lotus 3 are still sluggish...

Check to see there are no hidden WHDload exe files in directory of either of those two games.
