Not sure how this happened...
« on: October 06, 2008, 03:25:29 AM »
...but I somehow managed to delete the startup-sequence from my OS4.0 partition on my 4000T. And of course I don't have the install CD with me. Could someone PM/post their startup-sequence for me? (No one's going to freak about about copyright nonsense, I hope?)

Thanks.

We're only allowed to post default operating system scripts published by Microsoft, and even then, only with prejudice. Everything else is verboten. ;-)

@ Matt

I have to object, 'cos it's not actually the startup-sequence installed with your OS4 CD. Technically, you're using the files from another CD, which means you're violating your user license.

How'ed ya manage that? Reminds me of the time, long ago, when my son was messing around with my A2000. He "accidently" deleted the entire S directory...

I'd help you out, but I don't have OS4.0

Check your desk, the CD might be used as a coffee coaster.  :-D

Sigh. So that's a "no", then?

@ T3000

I know exactly where the CD is: Not with me. :-)

What filesystem is your system partition? If it's SFS, start without startup sequence and then type:
cd .recycled
dir

You should find your startup sequence there and a simple copy back to S: will restore it.

I have just done this in a UAE installation of OS3.9 which I use for preparing stuff to copy to my A1200. I think I rebooted too soon after saving the file (I had just been editing it) and it disappeared. I don't know whether the same thing can happen using an OS4 filesystem.

I don't have an OS4 machine but I do have a copy of OS4 classic. Would that have a working startup-sequence on it which I could email to you?

@ thread

Situation's been sorted out. Thanks, everyone!

@ Hans_

Good idea, but for some reason I decided to not use the .recycled directory when I formatted the partition. Might reconsider that now.

@ moto

I'm 99% certain that the file disappearing was due to my own stupidity rather than a bug/feature :-)
