After being unavailable for over 1 year, the Toastscan External Scan doubler with flicker fixer will be available again from Software Hut.

The Toastscan works with all Amiga software and Amiga OS and allows any Amiga model to fully display in all possible resolution modes with a normal, low cost, PC monitor. It allows the user to replace worn out or damaged Amiga monitors with a larger, better resolution display. In many cases, the Toastscan, is the only way an Amiga user whose Amiga brand monitor has failed can use their Amiga since Amiga monitors are long since discontinued. The Toastscan design also allows the popular Video Toaster and Video Flyer boards to display on a PC monitor, which is a feature most Scan Doubler/flicker fixer boards do not allow.

To find out more information please visit Software Hut's web site at:

You can click on the "Toastscan Scan Doublers Available Soon!" link located under featured products on the home page.

There's some info on it here.

Depending on whether or not you plan to use a TFT or Genlock it may be better to wait for the Indivision AGA as that should work with pretty much everything.

The 1200 version is just a few days away, although you'll have to wait until early next year if you have an A4000.

If you have an OCS or ECS amiga then it's a case of get what you can, but if bidding on ebay try get carried away with the price.

If the price ends up higher than a MiniMig, and you only use an unexpanded Amiga for playing games, then things are getting a bit silly.

As for picture quality you'll have to ask someone else.

Thanks for the information.  I just got an A2500 with a toaster, but I don't think I'll be using the toaster for anything.  I really just want to have a hard drive and play some of the old Amiga games on a LCD monitor.

I contacted Roy about the $65 16-bit option, but he indicated it would take months to even get the stuff he needs to build it.  The last flicker fixer I bid on, I got over by crazy numbers.

Now I'm just trying to find some viable options.

If you haven't purchase a TFT yet, it may be worth considering a an LCD.

I managed to find a thread with some pretty good advice on the web from the Melbourne Amiga User Group.

They said that LCD TV they have tried to date works with an Amiga, although they hadn't yet established which is best for the purpose.

They advised getting an Amiga 23 pin to 15 pin VGA adapter and taking your Amiga and the A/V cables you want to use to a local TV store to see what works best for you.

It might be quite amusing to see the reaction at the store too.

The ToastScan puts out a clean steady image on my Mitsubishi 2040u 21" CRT. All modes work correctly. It looks like native output on VGA monitor. Clean and sharp. It does need a bit of adjustment via the 20 turn pot. Once it is set, no need to touch it again.

Hi Beast...

If you are thinking of a ToastScan with a nice Boing logo on it, I'm the seller!  It worked wonderfully for me but I have some other priorities at the moment.

If it is mine, happy bidding!

Thanks, Bob. Yes indeed, that's the one I'm watching.  My biggest concern has to be whether it will work with an LCD, since I no longer have any CRTs.  Do you or anybody else have information on this or what to look for?  Thanks!!
