Got my Deneb...some questions
« on: September 15, 2008, 02:31:42 PM »
Hi :) I received my Deneb USB hardware and D-Link USB network card this weekend (thanks AmigaKit :).

I have some questions and issues so I hope someone can help...here are my specs:

Escom A4000T/060 with Quickpak 68060 XP rev. 2 board
SCSI CDROM and hard drive on on-board A4000T SCSI
Picasso IV Graphics card
Amiga OS 3.9 BB2
Deneb USB, D-Link USB DUB-E100

After some reading on the forums and on the support sites I have updated the Deneb to the latest V9 firmware and Poseidon to 4.2, placing the poseidon.library and other files into the flashroom of the Deneb.  So I think I have that working OK, my D-link usb network card is working with Miami.

However, after using the card for a few minutes surfing websites with IBrowse or Aweb, I get a recoverable alert, and then a red Software Error 8000000B.  I am using the Deneb PIO mode (that is what is in the flashrom) as this is an A4000T and I know DMA doesn't work with it because of the limited buster rev.11.

Is anyone else getting this error?

I also have a Logitech USB optical wheel mouse that does not work with Poseidon :(  Poseidon recognizes a usb low-speed device is inserted but it doesn't work.  I don't have the exact error message at the moment as I'm away from my Amiga...but really the more pressing issue is the Dlink usb network card...

One final error is a couple 1GB USB memory sticks that work but are not always mounted (yes FAT95 is in L:).  Sometimes they mount but then I get read errors, and I see message in Trident about adjusting the block size, etc.  On my Vista PC I did a check disk and no errors are found; I can copy files and read the memory stick fine on Vista, but on the A4000T I get block read errors...

Thanks

I don't get the Guru but have some other troubles (broken connection) with USB Ethernet devices where I have no clue what the reason is.

At least my Mouse and an USB Audio device are working.

Picasso IV Graphics card

Which version of firmware do you use in the PIV?
Please use the P4Info program to check.

Fine, PIO is the correct decision here.
Two things you might check now:

a) Install Scout, and in case of the recoverable alert try to find out which task is the bad guy.

b) Set the Zorro II jumper on the DENEB, use the correct Zorro II USB driver in Poseidon and check if you still get the alert/GURU.

By this you could help us determining the real cause of the guru.

Please send the information also to mboehmere3bde.

Thanks in advance, Michael

HI, I will try this out.  In the Deneb flashroom I can remove the PIO driver and just put the z2 one then? There is really no documentation on exactly what files you need in there.  But my Deneb came with 7 files in the flash...so I guess that is the minimum you need?

There is documentation. See Luciferin.guide. Luciferin will add all the files in your configuration using the menu item "Quick Setup/Poseidon".

Hi, yes, I found that, thanks.  It is useful but it requires an envarc: file to be present. I had to copy that over from a backup...but after that it worked and populated the list with all the poseidon stuff.

By the way, I want to get a USB sound card, do you know if this one would work?

Also, is it safe to attach a powered USB 4 port hub off one of the backplate usb ports so I can get more than 2 external usb ports?

Thanks

I should work, C-Media is also the sound chip so I guess, yes.

Well, that ENVARC:PsdStackloader file is saved by Trident.

About the soundcard: I had one of those here, it works, but it gets very hot.

Of course you can connect a powered USB hub. Most of them work fine. There are a few cheap ones without a diode which I would really discourage from using, because it means that the 5V would flow back into the Deneb and the Amiga, and that asks for harm.

on a1k there is a thread with a list of devieces proven to work with deneb. one of them is Digitus DA-70133 internal 3,5inch 4x powered hub. i got it too and have to say this is a perfect roundup for deneb. cannot report any problems up till now. the only thing u have to be cautious about is connecting it to the internal port since its every wire has unfortunatelly a separate plug. but the wires have correct colors themselves so it is not that hard in the end.

The cheap blue one works nevertheless. I also have an Audigy 5.1 one, but it only supports the 48KHz rate and no other one (which sucks). I tried another 5.1 one a few years later and it had the very same chipset inside (though it had different features). With AHI you won't be able to use sample rates higher than 65KHz, but the 96KHz modes suggest that this uses a different chipset.
