A4000, OS3.9 AND FAST ATA4000 MK4
« on: June 19, 2008, 08:08:04 PM »
OK, I pulled all the boards out (RAM, CV643D, Deneb and Fast ATA) and pulled the motherboard attached devices (HD and CD ROM drive).

I attached reinstalled the CV643D and a fresh 40GB hard drive to the Fast ATA with nothing attached to the mobo IDE header.

For some reason, all I can do with the OS3.1 install disk is get two 2GB partitions on the 40GB drive (any attempt to change the partition sliders ends up corruping the HD Toolbox screen).

I installed the Fast ATA software.

I installed OS3.1 on the 40 (2 x 2GB) drive as primary 1 then reattched the 80GB drive (divided into 16 x 4GB drives) as Primary 2 and installed OS3.1 on that too.  Both drives will boot, however there's a hell of a wait before the Fast ATA decides to load off the HDs.

I inserted the Deneb USB card in recovery mode and installed the 3 packages of the flash drive.  I installed FAT98 from the RAM drive.  Rebooted with demeb in normal mode.  Installed MUI.  Rebooted, watched the Deneb start screen, saw the "demo" prompt, tried to run Trident Prefs and after watching the RAM reduce I got "UNABLE TO OPEN WINDOW!".  Rebooted and tried again, same error.

Wiped hard drive partition and used DOPUS to copy over the pre-Deneb install partition from the 80GB drive.  Booted into OS3.1 to check it - OK.  Rebooted with Deneb in revovery mode, reinstalled software, reinstalled FAT95, reinstalled MUI, rebooted, tried to run Trident Prefs - "UNABLE TO OPEN WINDOW!"

Anyone got any ideas before I end up wiping these drives and starting again?

Meant to do a reply to this and ended up wiping my original post and replacing it with my 2nd post.  Oh well.
