Delfina Flipper and A1200 desktop case.
« on: November 26, 2005, 10:07:48 PM »
Hi,
my Delfina Fipper soundcard is arriving pretty soon and i have some questions to guys who have one.
Do i have to get some additional hardware (custom cable or something)to connect it to A1200 clockport?
As the last Delfina is bigger than the previous, is it possible to install Delfina Flipper into desktop case?
Do the Delfina Flipper's defina.library suffer from crashing the card after 5-10 minute playing of mp3-s as i've read about older ones?
Hope to get some answers.
Thanks.

@Hardstep

Answers:

1. You can connect it with the supplied cable.
2. I wouldn't recommend it, you'd have to isolate it and fix it very well...
3. Yes, it's a software bug still present in the official delfina library, there's a patched library that uses a workaround to avoid this.

hope that helps,

Hi the delfina is a nice clockport expansion you will have a great load of fun with that card.

1. You get the cable with the card

2. yes it is fairly possible to mount in the desktop but you have to find a spesial place for it since there is no standard plase for it , the biggest problem is the short cable supplied.

3. as for crashing get the newest patch from http://ami.ga/
it seems to be much improved

yes i agree with dragster at this one you have to wrap the card in with something.

you must also be verry careful when mounting the card and be sure the cable is connected the right way around if not you may fry both the amiga and the card.

Some clockports have more pins than others and if you have a mobo with the full sett of pins you need to bend\cut some off those out of the way to mount the cable.There is a detailed description about this in the manual.

The delfina is a very nice card.
I have one in my A4000 but in the beginning there was a lot of trouble with it.
1. Mind the orientation of the cable plug in and          check,check,check.

2. If you use it on some zorro cards (buddha) with the clockport it seems to disturb the sound a bit (high beeping) don't know about the internal clockport of the 1200(think it'll be ok as it was designed for it.)

3.The delfina software ain't good.You should install the delfina software delete the library(delfina.library)and install a patched one(there are more patched library's around only one works!!)could email it to you.
Also you should run AmigaAmp with the MHI driver running in the background to keep the delfinalib. occupied otherwise some programs still crash(simplemail).

I am running this system now and if have no crashes or freezing at all and a nice crystal clear sound.

You see it needs a little "tinkering" but then the card rocks(3% processorload while playing MP3!!)

@amiga4001

I've had a flipper in my A3000 for years now and have never got it to work - it would begin to work 1 time in 10 but usually just freeze upon using any of the software. Jens sort of conceded that the software was not completed, AFTER I bought and installed mine.  Anyway, I gave up after countless e-mails and "..try this patched library..".  To their credit, they offered to buy the board back if I didn't want to wait for working software.

Now that a couple of years have gone by, is there new software?  A new delfina.library?

To be sure, the Delfina has been my only expensive disappointment in trying to keep current with Mp3s and still use my favorite OS.

@magistral

Individual Computers released a new library just a few weeks ago on their website. You don't need the patch any longer. I haven't seen a single crash since I started using this one (fingers crossed)
