Meditor 1200TX
« on: June 05, 2008, 10:56:00 PM »
Hi guys,

I'm not very technical - I've asked on the Mediator list but got no response.

I'm trying to find out if the new TX board will give me an improvement on my current SX board.

For those that might have missed it:

http://www.elbox.com/news_08_02_22.html

I'm only running OS3.9, but it does state that:

New firmware embedded in CPLDs of MEDIATOR 1200 TX allows significant speed-up of graphic card operations when hardware 2D and 3D acceleration is used in single-processor systems (68k or PPC). The new firmware operation modes are supported by the new Mediator OS3.x System Files provided on the enclosed MM CD.

So, will my particular system benefit?

Thanks, in advance.

I have a Mediator SX and "gain of speed" in 3D is not important for me at all... what I suppose to play on Amiga in 3D? 3 games?

I'm not going to update... unitl someone will convice me that there are some OTHER "updates"... :D.

I have ordered one of the upgrade packs, as I am also ordering other items from Elbox, especially as there is FREE SHIPPING until 15-June-2008 on orders of or over EURO 79.00.

You ought be aware also that the SX upgrade only is available until 15-June-2008, at least that is what is on the Elbox website, so this may be the only chance for SX owners to actually get the fixed CPLD/MACH chips replaced in their Mediators.

It's up to you if you think it's worth it.

I haven't got it yet but with the replacement MACH chips you get the latest MMCD with the latest drivers on that, so that too is a good reason for the update, for me.

There may, or may not be too much of an increase in speed for 2D or 3D, though any improvement for Classic OS4 has got to be better, and with Elbox working on the OS4 drivers this may have a marked improvement when the OS4 drivers are released, but I cannot say it will or it will not for sure, as they have not been released, and Elbox have not released any information in that regard.

It's a window of opportunity, but the window apparently closes on 15-June-2008, don't say you weren't warned.
