How to install "BabelCDROMfs"
« on: May 28, 2008, 08:38:43 AM »
Hello again.  I am now going to give this program a try.

How do I install it.  I see that it is an extremely small probgram.  When unzipped it, I see there are only two icons.  Where do I place these icons?

Also, while reading the instructions, they mention how to edit the mount list.  I have no idea where this mount list is or what to do with it.  Anybody have any idea?

Thanks

1. Copy BabelCdROMFS to SYS:L
2. Copy BabelCDROMCtrl to SYS:C
3. Open a Shell window and enter
 ED DEVS:Mountlist

Add the following lines:

CD0: Handler   = L:BABELCDROMFS
     Startup   = omniscsi.device/5
     StackSize = 4000
     Priority  = 10
     GlobVec   = -1

Note, the device and unit number may be different for your IDE or SCSI card so change it to match yours.

To test it, either reboot or type Mount CD0: (syntax may vary on older AmigaOS').

Your mountlist looks intriguing.

What version of AmigaOS supports mountlists in that format?

Does it work so that the startup string is passed to the handler and that's why there is no device or unit entries?

Also, there's no trailing # which is needed for mountlists, but omitted for dosdrivers.

Before WB 2.1 and the emergence of DOSDrivers, Workbench kept all the mount files in one big file called the 'mountlist' and the Mount command read the file and loaded the specified driver in it.

Workbench 2.1 and later split the mountlist into individual files called DOSDrivers which makes it easier to add/remove drivers.

*Every* AmigaOS version since 1.2 or earlier and up to 3.9 (probably also 4.0) support this format. It's the orignal format as was already pointed out.
