StormC Install Problem
« on: May 17, 2008, 02:31:18 PM »
Hey, I get the following error while trying to install StormC, downloaded from: http://www.amigafuture.de/downloads.php?view=detail&df_id=664&sid=eda022888854e0ec13bc9bf109c315cd

The error is the following:

I've tried re-installing the latest Installer from Aminet but it didn't work, I've also tried using the Installer that was supplied in the StormC package but it didn't work...

I just wondered if anyone knows whats wrong? My A1200 is pretty standard: 030 @ 50mhz w/ 50Mhz FPU, OS3.9, 4GB Hard Drive, The only thing that is quite odd is that i'm softkicking with the v3.1 A1200 ROM so that I can run OS3.9... However this shouldn't really effect software installs.

Hope someone knows where im going wrong, thanks for any help!

Alex.  :-)

I had the same problem.

The install icons don't have the install script attached to them. I had to rename a few files and directories to get it to install.

I'll check out my installation and let you know what I did to get it to install.

Right here goes - this is the best I can remember - hopefully it'll work for you.

On the Install_stormc_hd_english icon select information and check that the Script= entry is StormC_Install_script

Create the StormC directory were you want to install StormC. Assign it as well. Part way through the install process you will need to re-assign it.

Rename all files and directories within the unzipped archive that end in or contain 3_0 to 3.0

Then run the install script :crazy:

I think thats all of it  :-o

Try it. It worked for me.

@davideo

OK I understood most of that put what does "Create the StormC directory were you want to install StormC. Assign it as well. Part way through the install process you will need to re-assign it." mean...

So I create StormC in e.g. Work:StormC and then do "assign StormC: Work:StormC" but what does the second part mean "Part way through the install process you will need to re-assign it.":

- when do I re-assign the directory, and what to?

Thanks for the help so far though!  8-)

 :lol:  :lol:

Your following me so far - so that's good  :-)

For whatever reason the install script unassigns StormC: but then towards the end of the script it needs to do something in the StromC: directory. So it can't find it and a requester pops up asking you to put back in StormC: :roll:

All I did was open a CLI type in my assign again for the earlier StormC: and click retry on the requester and let it continue.

Yup - I'm usually not this good at understanding stuff but your instructions were alright  :lol: right, gonna go and give your suggestions a go and I will report back with what happens...

(This also means I'm missing the FA cup final, but I think Amiga-ing is more important atm...  :-D )

Hehe, Alex.

Sorry but the only time I watch footy is when someone pays me to film them  :crazy: It's a game I've never been interested in - even on the Amiga  :lol:

I won't be around later tonight (gotta go to work :cry:)  but I'll check back when I get chance and see how you got on.

Line 4 in the script is

(effect "lower_right" "radial" $FF0000 $FFFF00)

It creates a window in the lower right corner as it does when you install 3.9.

So as long as you've got 3.9 installed with the latest installer version 44.11 it should work  :roll:

Type version c:installer into a CLI and check your version is the latest.

Ok mine says Installer 43.3?

I installed this version of Installer: http://aminet.net/package/util/misc/Installer-43_3

I thought it was the latest !, should I re-copy my installer from the OS3.9 CD?

I can't remember where I got my version 44.11 from but os3.9 has 44.10 in here :

OS-version3.9/c

You could try that one.

I seem to remember that there was an issue with the installer from the OS 3.9 CD - IIRC, the installer of OS 3.9 - BoingBag II worked better.

Currently I have no way of checking the versions, as I'm at work...

@davideo

Yup! It's working fine now! I can compile my C++ apps which is cool... and also I can make some nice amiga apps...

One thing though... How do I run the Examples? because when I choose open project and navigate to their dir's there isn't a project file to open? Other than that its pretty fantastic tbh, I wasn't expecting a full IDE where you have an Errors window, and you can stop/pause programs etc.... It's almost Visual Studio on an Amiga :lol:

Also, how recent is StormC 3? Will the code be as good as anything produced with GCC (G++) ? (Specifically C++, but how quick is the C code too?)

Also can you compile for different CPU's (E.g. 68000, 020, 030, 040 etc...)?

But yeah, overall pretty impressed!

Cheers, Alex.  :-)

@DBAlex

God you're running before I've even started to walk with it  :lol:

I've also got Hisoft C++ which is very similair to StormC - on that you can go into preferences and set up all sorts of variables and settings - including most of what you've asked above  :rtfm:

In fact the first time I ran Hisoft C++ after installing StormC my settings had been altered. So I guess they're more alike than I realised  :lol:

I've read on one of the boards that I visit regular that StormC is supposed to be the dogs do dahs :lol: but can be hard to master fully.

Have a look for a settings option from the right hand menu and then compiler. 68000 options are in there.

Also when you open file requesters change the default file extension, i.e. remove the extension and then look in the directory. They're in mine. They have an extension of an underscore
