A decade late and a killer app short, it couldn't have achieved anything.  If the current OS4 were released when it should have been, back before OS X, the Amiga brand might have continued, but world domination?  I don't think so.  realistically there was no winning hand.

What we\'re witnessing is the sad, lonely crowing of that last, doomed cock.

I'm with Persia on that one.

I periodically checked back on the Ami scene from the time I left mine behind in Oz in 1997.

Followed the 'rise and fall' of lots of plans. I watched the announcements, screenshots etc.

But releasing an OS for a subset of a fading community? Lost interest there.

IMO Amithlon was a bigger hope than OS4.  But at least both share a common Amiga legacy:

both were ballsed up - fighting for a slightly larger slice of an ever shrinking pie.

IMHO, they should release it for the MacMini, MacBook, and as many other PowerPC machines as possible before even considering puting time and effort into switching to another architecture. We need more users now, not years from now.

The MacBook being an x86 machine... I think you mean PowerBook and iBook...

Yes, I meant the PowerBook.

Yes, First release OS4 for every PPC Mac ever produced as fast as they can.  Second port it to the PS3.  But in any case PAY someone to create a modern web browser and keep it current with all the codecs you can.  Don't let it fall behind by ten years all the time.

Then, and only then, unless you have some absolutely KILLER application up your sleeves, will they be able to get even a few thousand NEW or returning users and a couple hundred programmers that will be interested in creating anything for the AmigaOS.  I would not be surprised to see Hyperion (or heaven forbid A.Inc) sell 2 to 5 thousand copies of OS4 for the PPC Macs if they could pull it off correctly and get it out of the courts.

All of this is highly unlikely to ever happen, so I never get my hopes up anymore since about the last 10 years or more.

Edit:  At least having it on a Mac would allow dual booting back to the MacOS to use Firefox and other must have applications until they started to show up for AmigaOS4.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

fighting for a slightly larger slice of an ever shrinking pie.

This sumarises the actions of every owner of Amiga since Commodore went bust.  In the end no-one got anything
