Amiga 2000 serial chips. What do they do?
« on: May 18, 2008, 08:15:59 PM »
Hello everyone.  I'm reading an old Amiga World magazine review of the Amiga 2000.  Great picture of the motherboard.  I was able to go to wikipedia to get a real good understanding of the Amiga custom chips, but what do the 2 serial chips do?  It seemed as if if the custom chips did just about everything.

Thank you.

Robert.

Serial chips ????

I assume you mean the 2 CIAs, which both have one serial and one parallel port.

One is controlling the PAR-port and the KBD (serial), while the other has the SER-port and the floppy-port (parallel and in coworks with Paula).
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

@Kronos,

Nice, short, accurate answer. :-)
