Files won't erase
« on: April 27, 2008, 01:15:02 PM »
As long as I've owned my Amiga, there have been times when files don't erase.  I talked to another Amiga owner and he said the same thing happens on his computer.

Does anyone know why this happens?

Check the protection bits on the file icon - it is probably not set to allow deletion.
Mac Mini G4 (1.5GHz, 64MB VRam, 1GB Ram): MorphOS 3.6
Powerbook 5.8 (15", 1.67GHz, 128MB VRam, 1GB Ram): MorphOS 3.8.

Windows-free since 2011-2014 (Damn you Netflix!)

This has happened to me using both FFS and FAT32... I think it is a flaw in these old file systems that some how they get loose track of data and stop working properly....

I think NTFS and HFS+ are much better, or at least this has never happened to me with them...

@Framiga
"<" and "$" aren't special characters. So couldn't you do "delete #?$#?Z<"?

Edit - I meant "delete #?<#?"

of course not!

anyway ... make a backup of the directory where the undeletable file is in ... delete the whole original directory ... create a new dir named (i.e OWB in this case) and copy back all the backuped content BUT the file undeletable.

lol! and now is in the .recycled dir ... impossible to delete it again!

Note- just for correctness.

The above mentioned problem with OBW_OS4, is fixed now.

Performing the Acid3 test with a previous (don't remember now which version), OWB_OS4 tryed to download a file (like empty.xml or so) and crashed leaving that long empty file.
