New hardware and need help with jumpers..?
« on: April 25, 2008, 10:32:26 PM »
hi!
Ive just got a GVP 68030 accelerator + ram32 card with 8mb ram.
I also already had a GVP A2000-HC+8 series2 SCSI controller with 8mb ram.
and when i installed the accelorator in my A1500 nothing happened, i just got a blank screen.
I could hear harddisk activity so i gathered there was something stoping it from booting.
I removed the SCSI cable from the cd drive and the second HDD so only the main boot HDD was connected.
I powered on the machine and got an error message which siad somewhere along the lines of "GVPSCSI - Unexpected Status 49$ ..000"

as the amiga has still only got 2.05 kickstart, i havent got the correct workbench disk to boot up and check sysinfo to see if the card is operating properly but i asume it is becuase i managed to boot into a couple games ..

Im guessing i need to make some jumper settingchanges .. so hit me

Cheers

Samm

If the '030 board configures its RAM inside Zorro II memory space, you'll have to disable the SCSI controller's RAM - 8 MB total max.

If your GVP accelerator is one of those "Combo" units, move the SCSI chain to it and extract the HD+8 out. Then try to source some more GVP SIMM to expand the memory.

I know GVP SIMM are rare than hen's teeth, but if you want those desperately, try the GVP SIMM hack on aminet ("transform" a regular 60ns 72-pin SIMM into a GVP one).
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

Not possible at all. Hate to say it, but if that was one of your primary goals, you should have researched before purchasing.

My SCSI diskes wont work with it becuase its only got an IDE interface and on top of that it has no boot roms

I'm not too sure about the maximum ram size the other posters were referring to.  I remember certain models that allowed you to set how much RAM was in the ZII space and how much was in the ZIII space.  I think you could jumper it so that 1MB, 4MB whatever would be "low" in the ZII area so you could map kickstart in to there, and the rest you could map in to ZIII space to get past the 8MB limit - and for compatibility with other cards taking up the lower memory space (bridgeboards, older 16bit memory cards, etc.)  I would look for the manuals for sure and check it out again.
