Anyone got one of about 30GB or greater for sale please?

Do not make such a mistake! :)

I bought a 2,5" Samsung Harddisk with 80GB and a special ACARD-Adapter (IDE to SCSI) and this is now my solution. ;) No noises, no heat, but with about 160€ for harddisk and Acard adapter also not very cheap... but this solution is great.

You can see it here:

Hey marcfrick2112, thanks for the link :pint:

@ alexh

Neatness with no extras to give problems basically. I have an Ultra Wide SCSI 4.3GB IBM DDRS-3460 and thought I'd just be able to buy a new, bigger drive :-)

@ Gavilan

Thanks. I'll get back to you. Did you ever make that trip to Europe?

@ a-pex

Thank you. I can't read the lingo but the photos look really great 8-)

@A4000_Mad

You will be able to just buy a new bigger drive if needed. I have Seagate Cheetah 73 GB 68 pins drives connected to a CSPPC and a CSMKII, as well as Seagate Savvio 2.5" 80 pins drives connected to a Blizzard PPC and WarpEngine 4040.

Most drives will work; I'm quite happy with the Savvio disks; using a 80 --> 68 pins adapter (it's needed for connecting the drive, so no way around it), a mounting rail from 2.5" form factor to 3.5" form factor and you have a low noise SCSI harddrive, and better airflow in a desktop cabinet :-)

I'm using ACard IDE adapters as well, from 50 pins as well as 68 pins. They are a wonderful invention, and working great, so highly recommended. Nice to know that the 2.5" notebook adapter a-pex have can also be used.

-EDIT-

I have some spare drives if you can't manage to find any. They are from 1 GB to 74 GB, all working, but some are louder than others.

A-pex is talking about these. They convert any IDE drive to a SCSI one. Will cost you about 50 quid, then you can use any IDE hard drive connected to your SCSI interface.

Thanks doctorq and moto,

Lots of options to consider and that ACARD Ultra Wide SCSI-IDE bridge looks good 8-)

I also just found this gadget in my box of bits:-

FRONT VIEW

REAR VIEW

Could be useful for something :-)

That's some kind of 50way->2x 68way adapter. The IDC connector isn't for IDE drives, and there's no logic on there to convert anything. Could be useful though if you can't get a SCSI drive with the right connector.

@A4000_Mad

It's a SCA --> SCSI adapter, for use with either a 68 pins or a 50 pins controller. I use one exactly like this for a Seagate Savvio harddrive, and it can be used with all 80 pins SCSI drives.

You can get a much smaller adapter, which is only a 80 pins --> 68 pins adapter. It's not as big and clumsy as the one you have pictured, so it gives an improved airflow in the case. You can find them on ebay if needed.
