I have TWO AmigaOS ROM Update files installed!?!
« on: March 19, 2008, 07:16:06 PM »
I noticed in my DEVS drawer there are TWO AmigaOS Update ROM files.  One is named

"AMIGA OS ROM UPDATE" (size 127956 KB)

...and the other is calle:

"AMIGA ROM UPDATE.BB39-2" (size 321768 KB).

Why do I have two?  Should I delete the first one and rename the second one?

(this question is related to my problems installing a new Kickflash board, but I thought it deserved it's own thread).

SetPatch will only kick in the one named "AmigaOS ROM Update". The BB39-2 is current, from Boing Bag 2. Backup the one you're using now, try out the BB2 version (cold reset) and see how it goes.

The BB39-2 file is twice as large.  There seems to be a lot more in there.  I wonder how the two got installed....i.e. you'd think that when I installed my OS3.9 it would have automatically updated the file.

I would keep both as I found sometimes I had issues and had to revert back to the other one.  Just rename the one you do not want to use to a different extension like it is now.
Going Bananas over AMIGAs since 1987...

Looking for Fusion Fourty PNG ROMs V3.4?

I think the installer puts the BB39-2 file in there no matter what. Maybe you told the BB2 installer not to install the ROM Update. I did install the ROM Update, and it gave me both AmigaOS ROM Update and AmigaOS ROM Update.BB39-2 with the ~320KB file size you mentioned (identical, in other words).

Ah, I peeked into the two files:

"AmigaOS ROM UPDATE" is version 44.26 and contains:

console.device,           v44.6
ram-handler,              v44.21
scsi.device,              v43.35
filesystem.resource,      v45.7
filesystem,               v45.9

"AmigaOS ROM UPDATE.BB39-2" is version 44.57.
All the modules inside are newer versions,

console.device,           v44.8
ram-handler,              v44.23
scsi.device,              v43.43
filesystem.resource,      v45.10
filesystem,               v45.13

and it contains these additional modules:

shell,                    v45.7
exec.library,             version unknown
bootmenu,                 version unknown

The exec.library in the BB2 update locks up my system.  However I can use the ROM update if I exclude that module.
