060 WB3.1 Install disk???

I've searched, but not found ALL of the libraries and other files I need to add to a copy of the Install3.1 diskette to be able to do a fresh install of OS3.1 then OS3.9 on an unformatted 4GB HD inside my A4000T w/CSPPC.

I get to a blank Workbench screen, but no further, so I know I am missing some file besides the ones I added a few days ago (can't remember all of them).

Can anyone help?

P.S. Both my CSPPC System disk and the SCSI disk are unreadable now, so I can't pull files off them.

In addition to the dummy 68040.library and real 68060.library, you also need workbench.library. You can extract it from an image of Kickstart 3.1 for any other Amiga (it's not in the 4000T ROM). Space on the Install floppy is going to be tight, though. I'd suggest deleting expendable stuff (BRU) from a copy, adding the new files, booting from that, and then using the original/unmodified copy to run the install itself. Then copy the new files back to the hard disk manually.

The reason you need to use an unmodified disk to install is that the Installer will probably choke when it can't find whatever was removed from the other copy.

I took your advice and removed BRU and a few other files, but must have taken one too many, to get the workbench library to fit on the 880kb disk, because now I get a guru meditation when I try to boot with that disk.

Hmmmm... a Guru is normal behavior for an 060 Amiga without the 060 libs installed... I'd suggest trying different versions. I'm using 68040.library 46.5 (748bytes) and 68060.library 46.7 (103636bytes), both dated Oct 19, 1999. I think they're on that page I linked.

There's also something weird with the workbench.library on your disk - it's too large. Try using 40.5 (71408bytes) from a 4000D ROM image. You can use Doobrey's RomSplit tool to get it. If you copied over workbench.library from a 3.5 or 3.9 system, that could definitely be causing the crash.

Preping you hard drives on a PC using WinUAE is much easier and faster.

Whip out the IDE drive and stuff it in any desktop PC.

You can usually pick up an adaptec PCI ultra-wide SCSI card for under £10

I was trying to use only SCSI HD's w/the A4000T's SCSI controller and two HD's on the CSPPC's SCSI controller.  I guess I can dig out an IDE drive and try to put it into the Dell I am typing on right now, but it only has SATA drives in it at the moment.  I am sure it has an IDE controller though, as that probably controls the DVD drives and Media Card reader.

I think I am going to take a break for a while as I think I am catching the flu (won't go into details, but I have been sitting on the ivory throne too often today). :-x

If you already have the ability to copy files off the OS 3.9 CD and your main goal is to get OS 3.9 onto your HDD, why don't you just

copy amigaos3.9:emergency-boot/#? hdd:
copy amigaos3.9:os-version3.9/workbench3.5/s/startup-sequence hdd:s

?

Or why don't you use your A1200 to create an OS 3.9 emergency disk and then use it to install OS 3.9 on your A4000 ?

Just copy the 68060 libs to the emergency disk and adjust devs/dosdrivers/emergency_cd to match your A4000's cd drive.

Why do you bother with WB 3.1 disks when OS 3.9 is your goal ?
