Choices, choices, choices...
« on: February 20, 2008, 01:30:37 PM »
During todays clearout I have pieced together the following:

1) A4000 in PowerTower with Elbox Zorro daughterboard, 16mb motherboard and basic 3640. Buffered IDE.

2) A1200 in PowerTower with Z-IV daughterboard, internal scan doubler, buffered IDE, SquirrelSCSI, Blizzard1230 16mb.

3) Desktop A1200 with buffered IDE.

Now, I also have a number of SCSI drives (CD/HD), IDE HD's, a PCMCIA ethernet and a number of Zorro cards too.  The most useful being a PiccassoII.

The question/choice: What do I keep?

I was thinking of keeping the A4000 (seems much more reliable than the towered A1200) and adding the IDE/SCSI/Zorros's to it, and keeping the desktop A1200 too and adding the ethernet/Blizzard to that.  That should give me a "usable" A4000 tower and a nice desktop A1200 for WHDLoad etc.

Would anyone keep the towered A1200? Then scrap the A4000 and desktop A1200?

Thanks for any advice

Jason

No, you"re doing the right thing. Don"t forget to keep the A1200 internal scandoubler though, for games.

I would keep the A4000 and scrap the A1200 tower as you have a  A4000 tower to impress people :P I would keep the A1200 Desktop and do what countzero said. Would be nice to have a powerfull beast like A4000 tower for serious work and a sweet classic A1200 desktop for fun :D

The A4000 is definitely the most collectable.  Keep it.

No one in their right mind would do that in my opinion. I couldn't be without one of the fantastic A1200 Desktops. One with an internal HDD, 030 and 8meg is great for WHDload games etc. Put a Compact Flash card on the PCMCIA slot and you've got a seriously good way of getting stuff to and from a PC :-)

Sell the A1200 Tower, but as countzero says keep the scandoubler.

And add the Blizzard030, PCMCIA Ethernet and Buffered IDE if it's an Idefix Express to your Desktop A1200. If you own many scsi devices you could keep your SquirrelSCSI.

You should add the Picasso II to your A4000, at least until you get a better gfx card.
