Video Question
« on: February 17, 2008, 02:57:34 AM »
Would I be better off buying a Zorro II or III card, or getting a Mediator and a PCI card.

What should I be looking for?

Get the Meditator.
I got a 4000D Meditator plus Voodoo 5500, plus a few other cards on ePay for about the same price as a Picasso IV.

You probably won't get such a good deal, but a Voodoo in a Meditator will run circles around any other RTG video solution available for the Amiga.  Plus, you have the side benefit of using other PCI cards, notably 100-Base-T ethernet assuming you're not using OS4.

Also, hopefully someday (soon!) someone starts selling OS4 compatible PPC cards for the Meditator.

 Wich Amiga?

If it is an A1200, go to the Mediator/Voodoo way.

For a big box Amiga, the easy and economical way is just add a video card.

For A3/4000, buy a ZorroIII card, of course! ZorroII cards are slow in comparison.

Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

I've never had a mediator so correct me please if I'm wrong (I have thought about buying one). Don't you still need some sort of scan doubler or a TV to set up the system if it is an AGA machine?

Doesn't the Video Slot also disappear when you install a mediator limiting the type of scan doubler you can use? I must be missing something.

For native Amiga modes a TV, Amiga monitor or scandoubler is needed.
