« on: February 09, 2008, 04:13:02 PM »
How (the he||) do i format 720kb floppy disks in win xp?
I don't have the 720kb option. And googling "format 720 floppy" report it is impossible in win XP...

So the other way...
How do i do that on Amiga os 2.1 with 3.0 PC0 mountlist?

The format program in Windows XP doesn't support double density floppies directly. However you can specify the number of sectors and tracks to format a 720K double density floppy as such:

Open Start->Run type "cmd". This will open a DOS prompt. Type in FORMAT A: /T:80 /N:9

If you want to do it on the Amiga you have to make sure PC0: is mounted. Type mount PC0: in an Amiga shell.

Oh, and if you do it on the Amiga you'll also need CrossDOSFileSystem in L:. I don't remember if this comes with AmigaOS 2.1 or not.

Hi,
Format in 720Kb, is no problem,

Goto Run, write cmd

Then  you have a Dos prompt.

write: format /?

you see all the functions: (here is the one you are looking for.)

Formats a disk for use with Windows XP.

/F:size   Specifies the size of the floppy disk to format (1.44) :-)

AmigaOS 2.1 was the first AOS to include CrossDOS.

@hakker

Except that /F:720 does not work with Windows XP. You must use /T:80 /N:9.

Thanx piru and caius, that did the trick.

I tried the format a: /f:720
and needles to that did not work...
however /T:80 /N:9 did work nicely

Have a "tool" to stamp hole in disks to make them HD..
It works on some disks...

Ah, the good old days :-)

A friend and I used to buy this huge a$$ publication/magazine, I think it was called Computer Shopper, and skim through the ads section and see which companies were offering stupid DOS trial software, and narrow down on the ones with more disks (like 2-6, like big CAD packags), and either write them a letter or call their 1-800 number and order the demo, and basically stock up on blank disks :-)  With the help of a hole puncher and tape of course!
