Newbie here - -

Hi.  I am Morningsky.  I have an Amiga 2500 that has been sitting idle for a small eternity and I want to get active on it and hopefully recover some graphics that are only in there.  I quit using it when www took over the BBSs and I couldn't get on the net with it.  Now I just got a MacBook Pro.  I'd like to get my stuff out of my beloved little Amiga and into my Mac, but haven't got a clue how to do that.  I still even have my ol bumper sticker which hung on my living room wall for decades, "I (heart) My Amiga".  I guess it's never coming back again ....sob!

Hi Morningsky,

I just wanted to welcome you to the community.  It's always nice to see a new face.

I can't help you with your problem because I don't own a Mac an am not aware of what solution that might exist for your problem.  However, there are many, many knowledgeable folks around here so I'm sure it can be solved.

C'ya around,

Dan

Hi, Dan, and thanks for the welcome.  I'm going to have to learn my way around here.  I am beyond delighted to find that Amiga still survives!!!!  I thought they were all lying in closets and antique stores.  This is great.  I just googled Amiga, and voila!  So glad I found you!

Hi Morningsky,

Nice to see you are returning to your Amiga.

One warning though: you should check the battery in your A2500 asap. It's very likely to leak after years of not using it and will eventually kill the motherboard. It is situated under the drivecage of your A2500, which has to be removed to check the battery. If it has started corroding/leaking, remove it immediately and clean the motherboard if there is corrosion to be seen. You can replace the battery with a new one, although the A2500 doesn't need one to function. Only problem is it doesn't keep the correct date/time anymore.
Life sucks. Then you die. Then they throw mud in your face. Then you get eaten by worms. Be happy it happens in that order... My Amiga 1200

Get a network card for your machine. AmiKit have them. Then setup samba on the amiga, and it will show up on the mac as a PC (gasp!).

Or, get Buddha IDE controller and a cheap IDE ATAPI CD Burner. Then you can burn the data.

Or, you can get a USB card and use a memory stick.

I guess the CD Burner is the cheapest and most flexible way. You might also get a cheap seconhand scsi burner of ebay, and then it's eaven cheaper.

The excellent MakeCD for the amiga is free these days.
A posting a day keeps the sanity away...
