Getting A1200 on the net?
« on: January 26, 2008, 05:05:45 AM »
I've got a 1200 running OS4. What is needed to get this on the 'net? Can I use a PCMCIA to ethernet adaptor to connect to the modem? What software/drivers do I use?

My PC is connected with a broadband modem using an ethernet connection. I'm hoping this part of the hardware is helpful...

Please...keep it simple...

Are you really running OS4 on your A1200? If you are, then I know nothing about the software side but I would have thought you have more than a passing knowledge of the Amiga  :-D

To get on the net you need hardware and software. Hardware should be a compatible PCMCIA ethernet card or wireless card. Well, I say wireless, Prism2.device is what you need for wireless but I don't know if it works on OS4.

Your best bet is to check OS4Depot to see what software you need. You need a TCP stack which I am sure is distributed with OS4?

Yes, a PCMCIA ethernet card is your best option, Aminet has the drivers for that. (3Com ethernet cards have good software support)

When you get the card just go to your OS4 folder and into the internet drawer, click on "Make new connection" and follow the screen props (go automatic, not manual and its dead simple)
