My problem was the detect switch next to write protection, I put a drop of glue on top (careful not to go in the body of the nail) and it took about +1 mm height. now the drive works fine.
Also you can convert a pc floppy, it's quite easy. You just need some modifications on case too so it can fit well. On A1200 is easy, on A500 a bit harder (fitting- the mod is the same on floppy).
