Pc to amiga serial transfer
« on: July 24, 2003, 10:58:59 AM »
Hi there

Im looking to transfer files from my pc to my a600HD. However, the problem is that i dont have any software to put on the amiga. I have downloaded TWIN to evaluate, but how do i get the program onto my amiga? I could just tranfer using messydos or crossdos via a floppy, but i dont have these for my amiga. How can i get just the first TWIN file over to amiga using the serial port? It seems as though im stuck in a loop here....

..unless any kind soul can send me an amiga floppy with twin/messydos on it!?!  ;-)

Um....

I'm sure there was a small bit of AmigaBasic code or Rexx you could type in that would act as a listen server on the serial port and accept and save any file that was sent over it ?

Yes. Ive seen some lines of amigabasic that you can typ ein and act as the first transfer. But the probelm is i dont have amiga basic...i think! All i think i have is workbench 2.05. Has anyone got a CLI  piece of code to receive a serial transfer from the amiga? And what do i use the pc side just to send data top the amiga memory/harddrive?

I thought CrossDos came with OS2+? You may want to check and see if you really have Crossdos or not.

It comes with workbench 2.1+. i annoyingly have 2.05! Ive checked all over and no its not included! :(:( I suppose maybe my best option is to get hold of a version or workbench 2.1+ off ebay or something. Its a shame cos all i need to do is transfer justa  little file and then i *should* be able to send as much as i wanted over a serial. Its just sending that first small file! :(

Damn that sucks, you don't have ANY software? Maybe a copy of Aterm and a modem or something? All you would need is a simple terminal program.

PC2Amiga on Aminet allows you to mount PC drives on the amiga over either a serial or parallel link. Have a look, I used it for years at one point and got some excellent transfer rates over parallel.
Restraining orders are just another way of saying I love you!

Heh... yeah there lies my frustration. I did see this link :

http://homepage.uibk.ac.at/homepage/c725/c72578/amiga/adfsenderterminal/methods.html

which did explain how to transfer that first file, but the terminal program to send to ram didnt work for me. Typing to commands it gave into CLI just locked it up. Also, no matter how i tinkered with the settings the terminal program supplied from that link didnt work. maybe cos im running xp? Anyway, i just wondered if anyone got this to work, or if anyone knew a similar terminal

Try these links:

or

The amiga explorer option seems a good idea. I guess i could shell out $20 for that. Wartrans is another option, but that requires me to type in amiga basic to transfer the first file....and i dont have amiga basic!! What i could do with is someone to send me a phycsical amiga disk with the amiga side of wartrans/twin or with messydos. Anything legal at the end of the day!

Anyone know of any termnal software zmodem that will just dump a file to amiga ram/harddisk without the need for software on the amiga side?

I use Amiga Explorer and it works fine even on a plain A500 (with WB 1.3)
