Best ScanDoubler/FlickerFixer
« on: January 11, 2008, 01:31:45 AM »
I want to use my Amiga with a new TFT monitor instead of 1084S!

I would like to know what is the best scandoubler/flickerfixer so far (if I find any, internal or external is better) to use with my Amiga. Also I want to know if I will have AGA or not, and what else I need to have AGA on a new monitor or TV.

My GFX Card is a Voodoo3 3000 PCI.

I heard that if you want AGA on a TFT monitor, it's better to buy an LCD TV. Is that right?

Thanks in advance.

LCD TV's usually have 18-bit color so some of the colors won't be as well shaded as they should be on a CRT monitor but nonetheless it is better than a flickery display.  Most of the scan-doublers that come built in to LCD TV's are only 16-bit but that only makes a little bit of difference.

If you dont mind 16-bit then an LCDTV is almost the same price as most Amiga dedicated scandoublers. They can also operate as a MON switcher if you get one with a VGA input (for your Voodoo) and RGB SCART for the native.

If you have a video slot on your Amiga, the best scandoublers are the ARXON and the Petsoff. They are both 24-bit and fully AGA compatible. Although they are both reasonably rare they come up from time to time on ebay.

The best value scandoubler is the one built into the Picasso IV @£150-£180 and including an RTG gfx card they are great.
