aos4 question
« on: July 19, 2003, 11:43:27 AM »
hey betatesters/developers of aos4 ! pls answer me on some questions:
----
aos4 for amigaone ready >50% ? if yes, what about AGA emulation (from features set) ? i mean
'address space emulation' and etc, etc. Or AGA not supported yet ? Interesting current status, not planned.
----

ps. anyway Morphos this a not AmigaOs, and not have normally AGA emulation. If i can't run '9 fingers, etc' - this a not real amiga -> so amiga dead in this case. New ppc computers this a new computers, not amiga (if not create NORMALLY emulation AGA,68k). Becouse easy way use Winuae
(have normally Aga support, not so ugly as MorphOS ..).

ppls need emulation on much more periods BESTEST as Winuae ! i hope Aos40 on a1 will be good for amigans.

ps. btw, 'pegasos' in russian lang have 2 word:
'pega' and 'sos'. 'sos' in russian - 'sucking'. so, this a funny ;)

Good to have you instulting both the AmigaONE/OS4 and Pegasos/MorphOS communities in one single post :-)

If WinUAE is a real Amiga for you then I suggest stick to it. However, you will be able to use AGA in both OS4/MorphOS when run on Blizzard/Cyberstorm PPC-s.

Not to mention that 9 fingers is NOT AGA AFAIK.

Thank you for the insults, have a good day :-)

Aga and 68k and ecs have been dead for a long time, thats why so many left the amiga in favor for pc and winuae and amithlon etc.

and now when amiga did the jump, people complain anyway, typical..

anyway i will enjoy using os4 on my new hw and on my old , anyway emu's must be used on the a1 to get old stuff working, but hopefully people will use it and develop for it and make it a big and wonderfull market again..

time will show.

kasle: btw MOS means in english = gay ..so... :)

If you really need 100% compatibility with AGA and
other hardware centric things, I suggest you
keep using the classic Amiga systems.  MorphOS and
OS4 are targetted at people interested in a
modern re-implementation of the AmigaOS and the
more serious apps/games released in recent times.

Removing the dependency and compatibility of the
classic hardware is one of the goals of these new
OSes so I wouldn't keep your hopes up for AGA or
other hardware emulation, other than UAE.

You should try to understand more before posting
such "out of context" generalizations about both
platforms though.  Oh and "9 fingers" isn't AGA
and it doesn't use AmigaOS either
(direct hardware banging like most older demos)...

Agreed! Its time to move ahead and leave 10y.o. hardware graphic's dependancies behind!

Back when Commodore still existed, the plan was to leave the old graphic modes behind. They had "planned' for AAA to be AGA's successor . . . then that was outmoded by work on Hombre:
Quote
...  Some of the old screenmodes will
>be present and new ones should be impressive

Hombre doesn't support any of the existing modes.  It does support 16 and
24-bit true color displays, I don't know if there's a LUT mode or not.  The
main emphasis is on 16-bit direct color.  You could have four 16-bit
playfields active at once, and there were blitter mathematics (something
like in AAA, only better) that could operate very efficiently on 16-bit
pixels.

Strictly speaking, Hombre is not an Amiga chip set.  While it supports some
of the Amiga ideas, it's no more Amiga compatible than an SVGA chip (less,
actually, since all SVGA chips support planar as well as chunky displays,
at least up to 4 bits/pixel).  This shouldn't be a big deal anyway, the
planned Retargetable Graphics system for AmigaOS 4.0 was to support chunky
pixels, though much more work was needed for that, especially to handle
direct mapped color.

Only in some ways.  In other ways, Hombre is still strong enough to keep the idea going.  Having a generally programmable processor w/ extentions is being found to be more useful for 3D animation than these custom GPU's.  While Hombre as/is is pointless, a take off of the concept would be very nice to see.

Uh...what makes you think OS4 on the A1 will even have AGA support? Come to think of it, what makes you think it will have any paula support?

Chipset emulation is costly, difficult to integrate and slows everything down. And I doubt ExecSG will allow the hardware banging that AGA apps do anyway. Best just run UAE if you want AGA.

There is a PowerUP and a WarpOS UAE for PPC Amigas. (0.8.6 or 0.8.12 is the latest methinks?)

These may work in OS4, but a quick recompile won't hurt.

"Uh...what makes you think OS4 on the A1 will even have AGA support? Come to think of it, what makes you think it will have any paula support?"

Cause the 68k version runs on AGA machines?

"Chipset emulation is costly, difficult to integrate and slows everything down. And I doubt ExecSG will allow the hardware banging that AGA apps do anyway. Best just run UAE if you want AGA."

Why not? The Cyberstorm version was supposed to come out first because some parts of the OS still relied on Classic hardware.

The A1 isn't an AGA machine.
