A1200 Saga

Hi All,
The Great Saga of problems Continue....  :-(
Now the PCMCIA Slot has broken pins (after try to get the overdrive to work and scratching my head (banging head on wall a few times too) trying to find out what it can be i took it apart and checked the PCMCIA slot only to find bent/missing pins (Don't knwo if it was me or the owner before), which would explain why i was never able to get the overdrive working properly...
Anyway can the PCMCIA Slot be desoldered and a new one put in place or is it gone the way of the dodo?

Hi,
 there is a guy i know called Paul who repaired the broken pins in my A1200, he was quick, friendly, cheap and the repair was perfect if you're interested let me know!

AFAIK PCMCIA slots cost a fair bit of money, most likely you'd be better off finding another A1200 (motherboard).

Search RS Components with the keyword PCMCIA, they sell a pcb mount replacement you could use. I had the same problem and bought a couple but havent gotten around to soldering it onto the 1200.

Are the pins just bent? you can unbend them quite easily.
There is supposed to be some missing pins. they dont all get used.

You may have PUSHED the pin back into the plastic. you can pull them back out again...

Pins 1,2 are missing and 3-6 are bent.

Once I soldered new PCI slots into a PowerMac clone, a Umax J700.  (The J700 shipped with four slots populated, the other two empty.  Putting connectors into the other slots on the mobo made it an S900 ;-)  I got the slots from an old Compaq riser board.  I desoldered them with a Radio Shack solder sucker, then gently soldered them into the motherboard.  Yes, both slots worked afterwards :-)  It might be cheaper/faster to find a dead laptop somewhere and steal its slot.  If you're good with solder ;-)
