256K x 4
« on: November 20, 2007, 12:04:40 PM »
I got this offer: "alliance as4c256k16e0-50jc RAM chips"
google says its 256KX16 CMOS DRAM (EDO). Can they be somehow used instead of 256K x 4 in A500, A590 or A2091?
Better sorry than worry.

I think they also fit particular A600 RAM upgrades too.

Somehow? Well, yes, you'd have to adapt them to plug into the data lines of four sockets simultaneously, each chip is forming a complete 512 KB bank. Since this is an SOJ package, you'd have to add pins anyway. I guess an A590 works with EDO as well, but have never tried.

The only neat way is to make a small adapter board - and the elegant way is to just use the 514256 chips that are still around everywhere (old ISA VGA cards, A500 512 KB expansion cards, ...)

Just checked my pile of ancient hardware: still got 10 514256 left, yours for postage.
