A lot of people ask, why did Amiga go belly up?
I don't ask that question, but more, why does any company that takes the mantle of developing the Amiga name goes the same way?
About a month ago I started flirting with Amiga (it happens time and times again). This time I didn't go down the cheapy hardware route, but down UAE route, and to be honest I was impressed - WOW(it actually works on crappy pc hardware well).
Anyway decided I want to support the Amiga, put my limited pennies where my mouth is.
SO I found the offical Amiga site. I could have cried, what utter rubbish....
So with a heavy heart I trudged over to Amiga Forever, my reaction was, thats more like it. I cant believe it, Amiga Forever is doing a better job marketing the Amiga then Amiga.inc itself. (Amikit is cool too but thats for another post)
And of course like any noob back to the scene, I am of course going to single handedly change the Amigas fortunes (I dont think so, but I can dream).
But the whole thing did make me think, why should Amiga.Inc be allowed to kill the Amiga!!!
Anyway my thoughts, I dont think UAE should be considered as an emulator but be marketed as a OS in its own right. (A bit like mickysoft did with windows origianlly(it was originally a graphics wrapper for dos)). I really like the idea of kxlight, and the only thing tht bugs me is the whole amiga rom bit. I can't believe after twenty years we can't almost do a wine thing and finally seperate the os from the Amiga Rom issue (these days I think thats the route for any os, give Apple another couple of years and they will be doing it full stop).
You could then get on with the business of actually selling the thing.
But more then that for me (1990-1991) the thing that made my amiga cool, was the fact one moment it was a computer, the next it was a console, and the next a cool demo machine. Amiga.inc is distroying this feeling and need to be stopped.
Anyway thats my two p's worth.
Make the Amiga cool again !!!!
