A3000 upgrade options question
« on: October 10, 2007, 02:42:47 AM »
I have a fairly standard A3000. What would be a good upgrade for it? Is there an accelerator I should get? Ethernet is en-route already, Retina Card already in it.

I'd like to use it online in lieu of my PCs.

Thanks.

Grab an accelerator! Only A500 will be happy with the stock cpu.

There is a plethora of A3640 outside in the world. But you can even find a better card to make your A3k fly.
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

A graphics card really helps with surfing, if thats what the ethernet card is for.  Get one that passes the native mode thru to the monitor, Picasso II, IV, Spectrum, etc.

Oh yeah! If you get an accelerator, try and find one that can add additional RAM.

Just out of curiosity, which ethernet card did you get ?

I'm thinking of ordering the X-SURF 3CC since I'm not planning on getting a PCI bus board at this stage and I'm quite happy with the Picasso II.

I have for sale a GVP I/O Extender and a CyberVision 64 (with pass-through Flicker-fixer) that would go nicely in your A3000.  Also, I have available 8 stock zip chips, 2.04 and 3.0 ROMs, a replacement stock SCSI chip, and a Ramsey upgrade chip (this requires another chip replaced  concurrently, but can't think of which one off the bat).  Lastly, I have a Dataflyer Ram expansion that can add 8 megs Ram (I should be able to populate that with 8 megs and test it for you.)  I also have some Ram sticks, but I'm trying to populate all the boards I have fully before selling off single sticks.  Everything mentioned will work in the 3000.
Don't have an accelerator to offer; that's what went out on the 3000 and originally mothballed it.
I also have two external floppy drives if you're looking for less floppy-swapping action.

They never made 3.0 ROMs for the A3000. Maybe you mean 3.1 ROMs?

Thanks for all the great replies. I'm trying to locate an accelerator and graphics card, but ebay looks to be all dried up right now. :-(

I'm guessing I'd need a Phase 5 Cyberstorm MKII 060 @ 60MHz, where the heck can one find one of these anyway??

What about this is this something I'd want for my A3000?

Like I said, not alot to be found on ebay.

What would be some good accelerators for my 3000?

And on that note does anyone have an accelerator or good graphic card laying around? I'll post that in Marketplace too, but thought I'd ask in this thread since I am looking for input.

Yep, not a lot around yet. You have to be patient. I think that the auction is just for the 68040 chip, not the accelerator PCB.

Hey, thanks!  They're actually for an A4000.  But I do have a pair of 3.1 Roms for the A3000 (still on the MB). The other A3000 chips are available, too.

Are they still around? Well that would be real convenient since I'm 25 minutes from them...

Do they have a website, since I'm sure they're closed at this hour.

Edit:
I found the URL but they are uber pricey.. not that I can complain though ;-)
