Need some clarification on an external CD-ROM on CS-PPC scsi...
« on: October 05, 2007, 10:29:59 PM »
I am thinking of making the cd-roms external on my 2 A4000's... mainly for heat reasons, as there will be more space without a cdrom in the A4000 desktop case... plus I think I use the cd only when installing an OS, all my amigas have USB for file transfers...
both are equiped with cs-ppc's , and one has SCSI drives and the other IDE ones.
my main concern is this: suppose I get 2 external scsi cd-roms... would I be able to connect them when I need them? without the complain "cannot mount device CD0 blah blah" when there is no cd-rom installed but there is a mountlist for one? or must I manual remode the CDx file, and restore it when needed and then reboot ? also do they work upon connecting (like usb drives for example) or a power off is needed?
thanks for the help!

If the drive's not there, the CDFS will probably complain. But since you say you only use them for installations, why not keep the DOSDriver in Storage and only mount when you need it? That way you're free to disconnect the drives.

EDIT: Do NOT connect a SCSI device while the power is on! They're not designed to be hot-swappable, so doing so might cause damage.

If you are a user of MCP, you can use the automount option for those devices not every time plugged-in.

BTW: I agree with Matt: never throw a device when the computer is powered on (but USB).
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.
