cyberstormppc
« on: September 07, 2007, 02:58:59 PM »
Ive just got my cspcc and put it in. Everything is connected as it should be, I turn the computer on and I hear a POP like something has blown.

I just get a green screen and then nothing happens and the caps lock light stays on.

Ive taken the cspcc out and the ppc chip looks ok no cracks or any sign of a fried cpu.

HELP!

Fist step is to see if it's the PPC card that's fried, the Amiga, or both.

Set the machine back to it's old configuration. Does it work?

Yikes, that could be very bad.  :(  Its also possible you got very lucky and only blew up your power supply.  Hard to say without seeing it.  Try a sniff test on the Cyberstorm.. Pass it slowly underneath your nose; if you fried an IC on the board (loud enough to hear a POP, anyway) then you will be able to smell it.

I dont think its the psu because the fans spin and power led is lit, but no drive leds light at all

Ive got no other way of testing because i have no other cpu board, i got one of ebay 4 weeks ago and it still hasnt arrived but in the meantime i got this csppc.

Nothing smells on the csppc though.

Hopefully that's it - probably the cheapest and easiest thing to correct.

Yes it was I put in some 60ns ram and it didnt like it so i put my old 80ns back in and it worked, i can get to the cspps menu at startup and boot from a floppy.

what speed chip ram has everyone else got?

Another problem now is that it wont reconise or boot from my original ide and no other hard drive lights up or spins?

My new setup now is csppc, 2 x 15k scsi hard drives, 1 x scsi cdrw,2 big fans, dcd ff/sd, 1 fan on the 68060 and 1 28mm x 40mm fan on the ppc, i have the original elbox 350w psu - is that enough to power all this?

also the power led light is amber and not green?
