Doubt about APPE Playstation Interface
« on: August 07, 2007, 09:16:40 PM »
Does anybody else make that APPE interface (3.1 version, IIRC)on Aminet.

I have a doubt how to connect the "right" wire on the Amiga side (the schematics show two "right" wires), who is the "right" RIGHT?

I tried to contact the author, but no luck in this. I think the email adress is no good anymore.

Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

I've asked many questions on Amiga.org and sadly only twice have I recieved a usefull reply.
Once I asked a question about the wiring on an Eyetech EZKey as mine had come off, it was a simple question to anyone with the same adapter & would have saved be buying a new one.... I now use an Elbox adapter and the EZ Key still sits in my spares box.
If I could help, I would, sorry buddy.

Look in GFX/PSXTOJOY_SQ.IFF .. Pin 10 of the PIC is right and pin 4 of the db9 is right. Connect those together?

Please rephrase your question if I answered to something you didn't ask.

I wouldn't ask technical questions here either. ;-)

If you look carefully, you'll see TWO (!) "RIGHT"s (pins 7 AND 10 from the PIC16F84) coming out... (at least in APPE3.x):-?

Looking in the first version of the adaptor, only pin 7 is translated to "right".

So I wonder: the most recent version of the interface have two "rights" on the PIC in order to adapt some sort of "dual" joystick (regular 3 buttons AND CD32 Joy)?

Why use v3.1 when you can use v3.2?

http://aminet.net/package/docs/hard/appe_v32

The schematics are fixed in that version.

HOWEVER

If in v3.1 you had just looked in BIN/APPE_V3.ASM (the PIC source code) you would have seen that PIN 7 is UP, PIN 13 is NOT CONNECTED and PIN 10 is RIGHT!

 Thanks a lot, chap!

I didn't notice there is a newer version! Sometimes aminet don't show all results (or I don't type right on the "search" window). :headwall:

Hi there, I built one of those and made it go :-)

It works quite well.  My motivation was to use it with wireless PS2 controllers, but it would only work with wired PS2 controllers.

Then I figured out that the wireless PS2 receiver needs 3.3 volt and the design puts 5 volts to the controller.  I used a regulator to step down the voltage and problem solved.

The CD32 emulation is not as good as it states IMHO, but it rocks in every other way LOL

cheers

does yours work BTW?
