A3000 and KVM?
« on: August 26, 2007, 11:05:22 PM »
Hi all

Was wondering - to save space would my Belkin KVM work with my A3000 and my PC?

Cheers

 The h/w you say is the video switcher? Then yes! :-D

 If is the video/keyboard/mouse, then don't... :-(

I have a Cybex/Avocent KVM that I use with a Lyra adapter to switch keyboard and video with my A3000. Works great!! I still have the original Amiga mouse though as I haven't got any PS/2 adapter to test with.

It will with some, it won't with other. I have had mixed results. Is the switch has a button(s) to switch then usually it will work. Remember you do need a Lyra (or other PC keyboard interface) and a mouse interface between the switch and the Amiga.

Most switches "detect" if a machine is turned on by looking at the voltage on the PS/2 port, which means that if the switch is semi-intelligent it will not switch to the port unless a machine is powered on.

I use an Avocent 19" switch (16 port) which works like a charm.

@tonyyeb

You need a PS/2->Amiga adapter for both mouse and keyboard. For example Cocolino for mouse and Lyra for keyboard.

@rkauer

KVM means Keyboard, Video and Mouse, not only Video.

Bye,
Thomas

So complete (an updated answer) is:

 KVM switchers can be used ONLY with peecee hardware. Amigas can use it ONLY with adaptors (ps/2 keyboard, ps/2 mouse and VGA out).
